Dental Implants

Missing teeth make everyday activities such as speaking and eating challenging and may also have a negative impact on self-confidence. Dental implants provide a convenient solution to the problem of missing teeth.

Dr Lidia Palenberg consistently seeks the latest evidence-based services and techniques from experts around the world to benefit our Perth patients.

Benefits of Dental Implants

Dental implants offer a number of health benefits over other teeth replacement options.

Improved occlusion (bite) – Missing teeth leave gaps in the smile, making it possible for adjacent teeth to shift or tilt, causing misalignment and exposed root structure.

Bone preservation – Tooth loss leads to resorption of the underlying bone. Chewing pressure placed on the implant stimulates healthy bone retention.

Stability – Made of a biocompatible material, such as titanium, dental implants are designed to integrate with the jawbone in a process called osseointegration.

Convenience – Single dental implants require similar care as natural teeth, including exemplary home hygiene and regular professional dental cleanings. Dental implants also look and feel similar to natural teeth.

Dental Implant Procedure

Successful dental implants require precise planning and evaluation, including x-rays, health history and moulds of the teeth to determine proper surgical and restorative placement.

  • Determine if sufficient bone is present to support the dental implant
  • Identify the ideal location for the dental implant post
  • Determine need for bone grafting or sinus augmentation
  • Create a surgical guide

Before any steps are taken, Dr Lidia will explain the details of your treatment and consider your concerns to provide you with a clear picture of what lays ahead. She will accompany you throughout the entire process. A wide range of sedation and relaxation methods, we are able to offer at Melville Family Dental, will make the process as agreeable as possible.

Dental Implant Crowns

Each dental implant crown is a custom restoration, designed to match the size, shape and colour of your own unique natural teeth.
Over time, we have built a good relationship with local technicians, who have proven to deliver precise and high-quality work.

Implant-Retained Dentistry

Other than Implant crowns, implant-retained dentistry combines the stability and health benefits of dental implants with either a dental bridge or denture.

Dental implant bridges replace teeth without the need to place crowns on healthy adjacent teeth and can provide an alternative to a partial removable denture.

Dental implants can be used to lock dentures into place, eliminating movement or slipping that may cause denture sores or embarrassing mishaps.

Frequently Asked Questions

We respect the choices our patients make for their oral health and never recommend one treatment over another. Instead, we use technology and patient education to explain dental conditions thoroughly and then discuss each treatment option with their benefits and limitations to help patients make the best decision for their smiles.

Intraoral camera – A small digital camera captures photos of individual teeth or tissue conditions, which we can then show to patients on our treatment room monitors. This helps patients see what our dentists see inside the mouth and can have an impact on their final decision.

Photographs – Using extraoral photographs of how teeth come together, the appearance of the profile, and before-and-after images of possible outcomes, patients can visualise their future smiles.

X-rays – As one of our early diagnosis tools, dental x-rays reveal dental caries (decay), bone loss, infection and fracture, which our dentists can explain to you by going over the images and what they show us about your smile.

We also understand that some patients wish to avoid complex surgeries or have specific budgetary considerations. You will never find our team selling dentistry. We are here to help you have the smile that works best for you.
