Emergency Dentistry

Waking up with toothache or swelling can be alarming, especially since a dental emergency never happens at a convenient time.

At Melville Family Dental, Dr Lidia and Dr Anni are here to help you feel comfortable fast. We strive to provide same-day dental emergency treatment whenever possible and welcome both new patients and our current patients to contact us at the first sign of tooth pain.

What Is a Dental Emergency?

Anytime you experience severe pain, swelling, or uncontrollable bleeding, we invite you to contact our Melville dental clinic straight away. Pain is an indication of an advanced oral condition, and seeking immediate dental care from an emergency dentist may prevent a dental extraction.

Immediate dental emergencies:

  • Adult avulsed (knocked-out) tooth
  • Luxated (dislodged) tooth
  • Bleeding or severely painful gum tissue
  • Cracked, fractured or broken tooth
  • Inflammation
  • Facial swelling
  • Mobile or loose permanent tooth

If you are not sure if your dental emergency requires an immediate visit, we can help you determine the best course of treatment when you phone us.

Non-immediate dental emergencies:

  • Lost or broken crown or filling
  • Damaged dentures or partial dentures
  • Chronic bleeding gums
  • Chipped, non-painful teeth
  • Broken dental bridge

If you feel you need to be seen right away or your condition becomes more painful, call our Melville dental practice, and we will look after you.

Dental Emergency Visits

Dental emergencies require specific, problem-focused treatment designed to stabilise teeth and relieve pain. Our dentists will take an x-ray of the area, discuss your symptoms and provide a diagnosis along with all treatment options. We understand you are probably feeling concerned, and we never want you to suffer in pain. Each Melville dentist is gentle and compassionate, making him well-equipped to have you feeling like yourself again quickly.

Depending on the complexity of the procedure, we can often complete it during your initial emergency visit. In other cases, we will have you back for a final restoration or to finalise root canal treatment.

We are professionally trained and experienced in root canal treatment and dental extractions, making our modern dental clinic your emergency dentistry one-stop shop. If you require a specialist, we work with some of the finest in our area, and we are happy to refer you.

Avoiding Dental Emergencies

The most effective way to prevent dental emergencies is to arrange dental exams and cleans every six months. It is at these routine dental appointments that we often detect decay, infection and periodontal disease in the early stages while they are easier and less costly to treat.

Are You Experiencing Toothache or Swelling?

We recommend that you call us right away. The earlier you contact us, the greater the likelihood we can see you on the same day. We reserve time for your immediate dental needs each day and will provide you with the high-quality, personalised care you deserve.
